1978 Camaro Z28

This project is a paint restoration bringing the car back to its correct white color.  The car had been previously restored, but actually painted in a Ford color, which of course is offensive to any good Chevrolet enthusiast.  We completely understand.

After basecoat on the entire exterior of the car, the panels will be removed and the body and individual panels will be cleared apart.  No tape lines, and the car gives off no evidence of a repaint.

After sanding the clear coat with 1500 and 2500 grit abrasives, the clear is polished to a flawless surface.

One thing missed by the previous shop was the correct graphics package, which we apply.

Because of the photo record of the previous paint job, we chose to paint on top of the previous work.  Without the documentation of the previous job, we would have required that the car be stripped in order to build our job from bare metal.

Individual panels were jammed separately

After we jammed the car, we reassembled the panels in their proper location to insure color uniformity throughout.

The Beginning!

In order to make a proper re-paint with no evidence of a respray, it is necessary to disassemble the car enough to not create tape lines.  Tape lines in a paint job indicate "good enough", and we do better than that.

Interior parts come off, the weatherstrip comes off, and the window sweeps come out along with the glass.

Taking the car apart reveals some shortcuts that the previous shop took.  The surfaces between the doors and the hinges were unpainted and rusty.  We cleaned them up and coated them with a corrosion resistant primer prior to paint. .
